When you think about vacation destinations, the American mid-south is probably one of the lasts places that come to mind; however, if you're looking for action, adventure, and a whole lot of memories, this part of the United States should get your attention. Why? – Because there are a whole lot of really amazing things to do in this part of the country. The Florida Everglades, hiking trails galore, hot springs, and more; there are endless opportunities for fun and entertainment in the mid-south. 

If you're planning a road trip, here's a look at some of the incredible things that this part of the country surprisingly has to offer that you might want to consider exploring.

Everglades National Park

One of the most pristine, incredible, and most extensive stretches of preserved wildland in the United States is located in Florida's great state. Everglades National Park is comprised of 1.5 million acres of land in the south of Florida. Wetlands, coastal mangroves, pine woods, and sawgrass marshes are some of the landscapes that you'll be able to explore. There is plenty of animal life to see, too, including more than 40 species of mammals, hundreds of species of fish, and 350 species of birds. If you're a nature enthusiast, a trip to Everglades National Park is one that should be on your itinerary.

The Delta Blues Museum

Any fan of the blues should head to the Delta Blues Museum in Clarksdale, Mississippi. This museum is committed to preserving this classic style of music and inspiring future musicians to keep the style alive. The museum contains incredible collections of memorabilia, and the building itself is awe-inspiring. A trip to this must-see museum will undoubtedly leave you feeling inspired. 

The Georgia Aquarium

At the Georgia Museum, you'll be able to experience what life is like underneath the waves without having to leave dry land. With 10 million gallons of water, this aquarium is the second largest in the entire world. It’s home to all sorts of sea life, including bottlenose dolphins, beluga whales, manta rays, California sea lions, and the largest fish on the planet – the whale sharks. A visit here will no doubt give you a new appreciation for the seas. 

Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Straddling North Carolina and Tennessee's border, Great Smoky Mountains National Park is one of the most visited national parks in the country. Here, you'll get to take in never-ending vistas, panoramic views, and all types of trails, from leisurely strolls to more strenuous treks. You may be lucky enough to spot some wildlife in their natural habitats, such as black bear, deer, turkey, and more.

Graceland

Visit the father of rock n’ roll’s house, Graceland, in Memphis, Tennessee. The estate and mansion are the home to the late, great Elvis Presley. It's simply breathtaking. You'll have a chance to explore where the King himself lived and see the incredible collection of memorabilia that are housed here, too. Plus, the landscape is simply beautiful and will leave you in awe.
